National Training Package

The Work Health and Safety Induction underpins the unit of competency RIIOHS201A Work safely and follow OH&S policies and procedures which is a core unit of competency from the nationally accredited RII09 Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package.  This course, however, is not nationally accredited as MARCSTA is not an RTO.

Pre-requisite

To be eligible for this option candidates must:

  • hold a current MARCSTA Work Health and Safety Induction Certificate; and
  • provide evidence of recent employment in the mining and associated industry sectors; and
  • complete the Acceptance of Terms and Conditions for the Fast Track examination.

The Fast Track refresher option enables prompt re-certification for those candidates who regularly utilise the safety and health procedures contained in the Work Health and Safety Induction program and, by virtue of their occupation, maintain current knowledge of both regulatory requirements and safety and health procedures in their day-to-day activities.

A series of examination questions have been placed in a databank from which a randomly selected examination is chosen using an algorithm.  All questions are drawn from the training manual and refer to performance criteria therein.

Candidates will be advised that the 50 question examination must be completed within 60 minutes which includes 10 minutes reading time. Questions concerning the examination must be asked within that 10 minute period. The examination is closed book and is supervised.

Embedded in the examination of the 50 questions are "must get right" questions. The Fast Track examination requires candidates to achieve an 80% pass mark at assessment and correctly answer all questions marked as "must get right".

The Fast Track option can be attempted on one occasion only. Failure to achieve the 80% minimum will require the candidate to attend a full Refresher program.
